Efficient brightening of dark excitons in InSe atomic layers

Atomically-thin InSe exhibited strong PL emission from its dark excitons due to efficient acoustic-phonon-exciton coupling, resulting in high population density and efficient radiative recombination. The asymmetric lineshape observed in the PL emission is explained by the carrier localization model, attributed to nonuniform surface potentials.
