Dr Ellen Williams is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics and the Institute for Physical Science and Technology at the University of Maryland, where she founded the University of Maryland Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, serving as its Director 1996 to 2009. Dr Williams has previously served as Director of the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), as a senior advisor to the Secretary of Energy, and as Chief Scientist for BP.
