Rabi oscillations and magnetization of a mobile spin-1/2 impurity in a Fermi sea

We investigate the behavior of a mobile spin-1/2 impurity atom immersed in a Fermi gas, where the interacting spin-↑ and non-interacting spin-↓ states of the impurity are Rabi coupled via an external field. We show how the thermodynamic properties evolve with increasing Rabi coupling and we present exact analytical results in the limits of weak and strong Rabi coupling.

About the presenter

Brendan is working with CI Meera Parish to investigate the dynamics of excitons in two-dimensional semiconductors, with a particular focus on spectroscopic probes and the effect of electron doping or large carrier densities. to characterise the topology of an exciton-polariton system and to show how to calculate and measure its quantum geometric tensor (including complex Berry curvature).

This works towards a key objective of FLEET Research Theme 2, Exciton superfluid.
