Lawrence Farrar was a PhD student at RMIT University working with Lan Wang on FLEET Research theme 1, and Enabling technology B. His research focussed on design and fabrication of test devices that exhibit the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), using 2D topological insulators coupled to insulating ferromagnets. Such devices were constructed using the top-down (bulk exfoliation) method to obtain 2D materials. Within FLEETs theme 1, the magnetisation of topological insulators to enable QAHE is a crucial step towards dissipationless systems.
